Thanks to Silky’s creative team, the Silky Tsurugi Curved Blades delivers perhaps the lightest weight, best balanced “big saw” ever produced. Having no need for screws, nuts, or extraneous hardware to keep it together the weight is reduced. The result is a much more aggressive blade in popular sizes that will still fit into tight crotches without damage to opposing limbs.
This saw is designed for the pruning of small to medium branches. These blades have a very narrow blade allowing easy access to small spots, such as the fork of a tree or between palm branches. It has a tooth style to cut dense and sappy timbers with ease. In additon they also have a hollow-ground blade, which reduces friction whilst cutting. Thereby allowing the cutting stroke to feel very easy and fast.
The teeth are not set. They are what Silky calls a Mirai-Me tooth style. This style of tooth creates a very smooth cut which leaves the branch so smooth that it will appear as though it has been given a light sand. This benefits the tree by reducing the chance of water and bacteria sitting in grooves in the timber encouraging infection into the wound. This style of tooth also makes a wider cut in the timber than the width of the blade, therefore reducing the chance of the blade jamming.
BLADES
The blades are made from very strong steel which is also quite flexible. In addition, the blades are also coated to give them protection from rust and resin. The handles are made from a special rubber designed by Silky Japan. It is called GOM and it is extremely comfortable to hold. It absorbs a lot of the vibrations you get when cutting and therefore allows you to have a very good grip, even when your hands are damp. The handles on the Tsurugi have Silky’s amazing new encasement which contains no screws. Therefore this makes it very quick and easy to replace blades. All parts are replaceable, so if you lose anything you can order replacement parts, i.e. screws, blades, scabbards, handles. There is a blade length available for all pruning needs.
