Gränsfors Hunter’s Axe
The Gränsfors Hunter’s Axe is purpose-built for hunters who need a reliable tool in the field. Designed for both chopping wood and processing game, this versatile axe combines practical performance with traditional Gränsfors craftsmanship.
One of its standout features is the specially shaped rounded “flay poll,” which allows the axe to be used when skinning an animal without damaging the hide. Compact yet powerful, it is equally at home around camp, preparing firewood, or tackling field dressing tasks.
Hand-forged in Sweden, the Hunter’s Axe features a durable wooden handle that offers excellent balance, control, and comfort during use. It also includes a genuine vegetable-tanned leather sheath for safe storage and transport.

AXE MODELS
We are often asked about what type of axe to choose. When selecting your axe, it becomes crucial to determine its intended purpose. Are you planning to use it for chopping wood in the forest or constructing a log house?
The main difference between axes is the edge. Most commonly, the edge faces the direction of travel, parallel with the handle. There are also axes where the edge is perpendicular, although these are less common. Examples include Gränsfors Bruk’s Straight Adzes and Gutter Adzes.
A typical chopper is Gränsfors Bruk’s Splitting Axe, which has quite a thin edge but a much broader and thicker poll. Therefore, This helps to split the wood apart. A prime example of a carving axe is Gränsfors Bruk’s Carpenter’s Axe. This has a long, thin and straight edge with a straight, pointed bevel face and a narrower poll, which makes it perfect for carving. The Carpenter’s Axe is not suitable for heavier work such as tree felling and log splitting. The pointed angle of the blade is not designed for that.
People today mainly use axes as tools and classify them into three groups: Forest Axes, Splitting Axes, and Log-building Axes.
