Gränsfors Hand Hatchet
The Gränsfors Hand Hatchet is a compact and highly versatile outdoor axe designed for campers, scouts, hikers, and anyone needing a dependable small axe that is easy to carry without sacrificing performance.
Its defining feature is the short handle combined with a relatively large axe head, creating a compact yet powerful tool that fits neatly into a backpack, vehicle, or camping kit while still handling a wide range of outdoor tasks with ease.
Despite its compact size, the Hand Hatchet is capable of felling small trees, limbing branches, splitting kindling, and preparing firewood around camp. It is an excellent all-round bushcraft and camping axe for those who value portability and practical performance.
Built for Outdoor Adventures
The included vegetable-tanned leather sheath covers both the cutting edge and the upper section of the poll, helping protect your gear and preventing the axe head from damaging your rucksack during transport.
Hand-forged in Sweden from recycled steel and fitted with a durable hickory handle, the Hand Hatchet reflects the traditional craftsmanship and reliability Gränsfors Bruk is known for worldwide.
Each axe also includes a copy of The Axe Book.

AXE MODELS
We are often asked about what type of axe to choose. When selecting your axe, it becomes crucial to determine its intended purpose. Are you planning to use it for chopping wood in the forest or constructing a log house?
The main difference between axes is the edge. Most commonly, the edge faces the direction of travel, parallel with the handle. There are also axes where the edge is perpendicular, although these are less common. Examples include Gränsfors Bruk’s Straight Adzes and Gutter Adzes.
A typical chopper is Gränsfors Bruk’s Splitting Axe, which has quite a thin edge but a much broader and thicker poll. Therefore, This helps to split the wood apart. A prime example of a carving axe is Gränsfors Bruk’s Carpenter’s Axe. This has a long, thin and straight edge with a straight, pointed bevel face and a narrower poll, which makes it perfect for carving. The Carpenter’s Axe is not suitable for heavier work such as tree felling and log splitting. The pointed angle of the blade is not designed for that.
People today mainly use axes as tools and classify them into three groups: Forest Axes, Splitting Axes, and Log-building Axes.
